Job Opportunity: Assistant Law Director/Assistant Prosecutor

Job Summary: Responsible for representing the City of Euclid in all matters pertaining to civil litigation. Advises and works under the immediate supervision of the Law Director. Assists the City Prosecutor in all matters pertaining to criminal litigation in Euclid Municipal Court.

Job Duties:

  • Advise the City departments on legal issues.
  • Write legal opinions for various City departments.
  • Represent the City including departments and employees in litigation.
  • Research and draft pleadings.
  • Administer self-insurance liability fund.
  • Research legal issues; draft various legal agreements.
  • Advise City Boards, Commissions and Council Committees and attend meetings.
  • Advise Council members; attend Council meetings when Law Director is unavailable.
  • Knowledge of criminal law and procedure.
  • Supervise and assist outside legal counsel, law clerks.
  • Train Police Officers on liability issues.
  • Respond to citizen inquiries.
  • Perform other related miscellaneous duties as required.

Work Environment: Office. Sedentary work: exerting negligible force; occasional walking and standing. Physical activity: climbing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping.

Requirements: JD Degree. Current license to practice law in Ohio. Ability to express and exchange ideas and instructions accurately and clearly. Maintain confidentiality of attorney-client communications.
