Amazon’s Euclid Fulfillment Center, in partnership with University Hospitals Safe Kids Greater Cleveland, UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention Center and Euclid Police Department, are providing bicycle helmets and safety information to every child in all four of Euclid’s Elementary Schools.

Amazon’s Euclid Fulfillment Center, in partnership with University Hospitals Safe Kids Greater Cleveland, UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention Center and Euclid Police Department, are providing bicycle helmets and safety information to every child in all four of Euclid’s Elementary Schools. This amazing program, in which Amazon donated a total of $50,000 to purchase helmets for elementary school children in Warrensville, Euclid and Cleveland, is aimed to educate children about bicycle safety and decrease their risk of serious injury in bicycle-related accidents.

1,500 helmets were given away to Euclid’s elementary school children at Arbor, Bluestone, Shoreview and Chardon Hills STEM Elementary schools. Students receiving helmets will also participate in a free interactive assembly called “Protecting Your Amazing Brain” presented by the UH Rainbow Safety Squad. This assembly will help educate students about bike safety and the importance of wearing the helmets they will be given.

According to the UH Injury Prevention Center’s website, every year more than 200,000 children under the age of 14 end up in the Emergency Room due to bicycle-related injuries. “The best way to protect kids from brain injury in a fall or bike crash is to be sure they always wear helmets,” UH warns.

“When we are able to not only provide the important safety education, but also the tools that let kids put what they learned into practice, it can make all the difference in creating safe habits that last a lifetime,” said UH Rainbow Injury Prevention Center Manager Jennifer Walker.

Volunteers from Amazon, UH and EPD will be working together at each of the four elementary schools to pass out helmets and provide fit checks to make sure each child receives the right size and fit- an important aspect of helmet safety. This innovative partnership for our children’s safety is just one of many ways Amazon CLE3 has contributed to the Euclid community. Most recently, Amazon volunteered employee time and resources to clean up the Euclid Avenue mini-station and prepare it for future use.

“We focus on giving back in local communities where our employees live and work, and we’re proud to donate bike helmets to ensure safety for our youth. We don’t just strive to be the best employer. We’re striving to be the best neighbor too,” said Ben Smith, Amazon Assistant General Manager.

“Thank you to Amazon, Safe Kids and the Euclid Police for putting together this impactful program for the children of Euclid,” said Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail. “We are grateful for the partnership and their ongoing investment in building a strong, safe and vibrant community! “
